Electric or propane heater – which to choose?

Let’s be honest, most people don’t go around studying what type of heaters they want to use. Even more, you probably have never really debated between if you should use an electric or propane heater in general. So, you may be wondering which of these is best for you as a homeowner. You maybe even wondering if there’s really that much of a difference between the two; I mean they’re both heaters right? This article will give you everything you need to know when choosing which type of heater you need to get to supply your chosen area with warmth.

Why A Heater

Heaters can help greatly reduce your electric bill during cold winter months. There smaller in size and you can turn off your central air and use the heater to only heat the room you’re staying in. By only heating one room, you can save on your electric bill and even be cozier while doing it. Heaters are also pretty easy to move around being they’re portable when you need to change from one room to another. They can also be a perfect companion if your power goes out and you have no other way to provide your family with warmth.

If you work outside a lot or in a smaller area, they can be perfect for keeping you up to speed with the things going on around you. These heaters can easily fit anywhere you need to go to make your outdoor working life easier. They are especially useful in areas like garages where you don’t generally put in any type of air system. They are also a lot cheaper than debating on installing an air system in an outdoor building that you use a lot. All in all, heaters are just made to save you a lot of money in the long run.

If you’re picking up a heater for your home to heat the whole house, you may want to look into a few different options. Listed below are some of the reasons you want to use a propane heater in your house. Be warned though, the electric one has its upsides as well.

Electric and Propane fuels.

These two types of heaters are incredibly different from each other in the way they are fueled. One is fueled by using simple electricity that is available to everyone and the other one it is fueled by propane. Most people don’t even use propane anymore for much of anything though so you may not even know where to get it. Still, there are some surprising advantages to having a propane heater and the services propane companies will offer to you when you have one. On the other hand, electric heaters are pretty simple to use and you won’t have to worry about contacting any other humans to use them.

With new electric heaters, you can easily figure out just what you’re getting yourself into. Electric heaters simply plug into the nearest plug-in and run off of your already included electrical source in your home. They do have quite a few limits though as they’re harder to move around due to the fact they always have to be near a plug-in. While you can do things like get a portable battery to power them off of, this isn’t always the cheapest or easiest thing to do. On top of that, if you have to carry a portable battery around, that’s something else you have to worry about keeping up with. This makes electric heaters a little bit impractical to use on things like construction jobs.

On the other hand, propane heaters are more portable but the fuel is going to be a little bit harder to get ahold of compared to just plugging in an electric heater. This is because you’re either going to have to find a place that’s open that sells propane or you’re going to have to contact a propane company to supply you with the fuel you’ll need to run it. While propane companies do have some great customer service including 24-hour customer service. It’s a little bit of a hassle to have to rely on someone else to keep your heater up and running. If your company is looking into using a heater for its employees though, it may be a little bit easier for you to rely on another company to keep things up and running while you’re busy worrying about things like finances and getting materials to where they need to go.

Comparing Prices

If you’re looking at putting a propane heater or furnace in your house compared to an electric one. Then you should know that propane actually runs a little bit hotter than an electric heater. Propane is actually said to be cheaper than running up your electric bill with a heater as well. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its setbacks, however, as you do have to have somebody come out to your house to refill your propane tank every once in awhile. Is your tank gets a leak or you have to replace it, you may be out of luck for a few days. On the upside though, it said that propane furnaces can actually last for a longer time than the electric ones. This, of course, depends on the make and model you install into your home.

On the upside, for electric heaters you don’t have to worry about causing a leak in the gas tank. You simply show your electric company and your heater will start running when you turn on the electricity. The only thing that can actually hinder your electric heater is if your power goes out. But you may have some trouble using your propane heater depending on what model you get if your power goes out as well. Basically, an electric heater is way more user-friendly than a propane heater is. It’s just if you want to try to save money with propane or live in a more comfortable environment due to the user-friendly interface and electric heater will have.
